To Reach For The Stars: Some Tips We Can Learn From SpaceX and Tesla’s Elon Musk

At this point, we have been introduced to numerous innovations and breakthroughs, especially in technology. Years before the first cities were even supplied with electricity, people have already gone out of their ways to create and invent things that can make day-to-day living easier. Since then, so much has been discovered, and undoubtedly much more in the coming years. With that said, one such figure who has contributed a significant amount to the world of technology is none other than Elon Musk. Well-known for owning companies such as SpaceX and Tesla, Musk has never failed to bring his ideas into the public spotlight. With the success he has made for himself, it’s safe to say that there’s plenty we can learn from the CEO of Tesla. Now, without further ado, let’s talk about some of these tips that can help us follow in Musk’s footsteps, shall we?

Communication Is Vital

After finishing his studies with a bachelor’s degree in both physics and economics, Musk’s first project was Zip2, a web software company he founded with his brother and Greg Kouri. Since then, learning from his experiences, Musk now works in more than just one company. Besides being the CEO and product architect of Tesla, he is also the chief designer, CTO, and CEO of SpaceX, and the founder of Neuralink and The Boring Company. Now, with his time divided between each of these companies, one question stands: how does he manage each one? Well, that’s where communication comes in. Along with his brief and concise tweets on his Twitter account, Musk is also fond of writing short documents that excellently relay to his employees the plans he has for their respective companies. After all, Musk, like us, is just one person, and as that old saying goes: “no man is an island.”

Set A Schedule For Yourself

In business, companies make plans and organize their tasks, which helps them prioritize the ones they need to focus their investments more on. Well, for Elon Musk, a man who works on more than one company, it comes as no surprise that he has since developed a time management skill ideal for his work. Besides reportedly working 80-100 hours in a week, the CEO of Tesla also makes it a habit to provide himself a schedule to follow throughout those hours. With that said, the technique Musk uses is what is often known as timeboxing. How it works is that he divides his 24 hours into five-minute boxes, and each box is a slot indicating a task he needs to do in that allotted time. After a daily schedule is set, he then merges it with his calendar, providing him with an overview of each month’s to-do list. Well, this is a habit that surely takes time to get used to, but the results speak for themselves.

Aim High, And Don’t Let Failure Stop You From Getting Better

When going on a journey, one must prepare for the worst as much as they expect for the best. Elon Musk is no stranger to that. He may be one of the richest people in the world today, but that doesn’t mean he is immune to failure. When he was still starting out in the business, Musk initially applied for tech companies such as Netscape, though he got rejected. Well, that didn’t stop him from making Zip2. Another project he worked on along the way is PayPal, which at one point took credit for being the worst business idea ever made. Since then, PayPal has become one of the most used and relied upon online wallets available in the world. For Musk, despite his many successes, he still welcomes failure with open arms, because only through failure can one truly learn and improve.
